Key 1 Away
More seems like less by moving it far far away. The benefits of connecting to a larger mainframe are especially apparent when you think about the capacity a single computer has to run software and keep files on the hard drive. Being able to access programs via internet and keep files in a more unlimited space would allow the individual computers to use less RAM. This would allow for a faster computer and unlimited file space. For me, it leaves the question of whether or not files would be more or less protected. By storing files at home it seems like they are more protected because they are located in a specific place and on a specific hard drive rather than some sort of unknown place that’s only accessible through the internet. It also makes me wonder if my computer would be more susceptible to viruses or hackers. But in a more general way, I would agree that more seems like less by moving it far away. I would also say it makes things seems less complicated.
Key 2 Open
The idea of designing something to be open is when I think people get most excited about design. When there is a benefit and they can get directly involved, people are far more open to the company and begin to trust in the design. This can lead to an opportunity to offer things for purchase or convince people a more sophisticated version is worth buying. How this is done needs to seem fair to people though and not like they’ve been tricked. I think being open is one of the most important things a company and design can do. It’s all about creating a trusting relationship.
